OOD 2.0 (Knightly): UX thoughts/issues
Thanks for all the hard work on this!
I'll preface this by saying I realize some (many, all?) of these are OOD issues, not ours. If so I'm happy to assist getting them in front of the OOD team.
File Browser
Generally speaking, the UI has changed substantially from our OOD 1.x issue. Generally the interface doesn't look quite as clean or professional.
- Button color should differ from page color with 3:1 contrast ratio to be more readily identifiable as an interactive element (https://ux.stackexchange.com/a/126799/77545, https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#non-text-contrast). Be aware there is a guideline for text:element contrast ratio as well (https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#contrast-minimum).
- File Browser: Upload/Download and Delete buttons are great, the other buttons appear "empty".
- Possible solution: maybe use a color from (https://www.uab.edu/toolkit/brand-basics/colors#digital)
- Button spacing should be increased in top menu of File Browser.
- Like buttons should be visually grouped using wider spacing between groups than within groups. One idea:
- Terminal
- Upload, Download
- New File, New Directory, Copy/Move, Delete
- Left navigation panel in File Browser appears to be wider than necessary (about twice as wide as the text contents). This element may need to be part of the page reflow, if it isn't already.
Job Composer
-
Font is different on Job Composer page (https://knightly.rc.uab.edu/pun/sys/myjobs).
-
Reflow does something unexpected on Job Composer page, in the area near the "Delete" button.
Interactive Apps
- Content (perhaps a div?) has slightly different width in Interactive App forms and My Interactive Sessions page, which is a bit jarring. Try going to (https://knightly.rc.uab.edu/pun/sys/dashboard/batch_connect/sys/bc_desktop/SLURM_CLUSTER/session_contexts/new) and then click "My Interactive Sessions" and watch the content shrink horizontally just a bit.
